After a hiatus of two years, many kids may be apprehensive regarding joining back the school. Parents can help their kids prepare for joining back school by easing their minds. The following tips by Om Public School will enable kids to prepare to join back with a healthy mind and body.

Going to bed early

The pandemic and the subsequent lockdowns gave the kids an erratic schedule for daily routine. First and foremost, their sleeping and waking up schedules must be fixed. It won’t happen overnight. A few days before the opening of the school, get your kid to go to bed early and wake up early. Helping them with bedtime stories or a warm bath will enable them to fall asleep on time, hence waking up at the right time.

Right routine

Fixing the daily routine should also be included in the preparatory chart. A consistent daily routine will help the kid get in the groove. Jot down the steps to follow a set easy-routine for the day and help your child follow the same. It may include, taking a shower on time, getting ready for school on time, lunch on time after getting back from school, homework, going out to play, a hobby class, and studying before going to bed. Ensure that your kid follows a consistent routine to develop the habit and make returning to school easier.

Being independent

Let your child prepare their bag and organize their school supplies on their own. They must develop some enthusiasm to go back to school. Get them to set their new uniform, choose their lunch box, sipper, or pencil case. If they are old enough, they can iron their uniform or choose the menu for their healthy lunch box. Get them to make small decisions that will inspire them to be ready to join back school.

Interesting backpacks or favorites

Let the kid buy at least one of their favorite things, which could be their backpack, shoes, lunch box, or water bottle. Let it be the backpack as it is the most important accessory to go to school. Do not go in for too heavy a backpack as that can cause muscle strain or neck pain. Discard the too worn-out bags. Try picking a sturdy backpack, made of lightweight material with broad, padded belt straps that will strongly support the bag and soothe your child’s shoulders. Don’t encourage your kid to sling the bag over just one of the shoulders.

Discuss safety measures

Start discussing all the safety measures that are to be taken by the kid once they step out, as early as possible. Safety is paramount. Teach them to cross the roads safely, or to be careful while in their school cabs. Ask them not to speak to strangers or go anywhere else other than the school and its route. This will infuse a sense of responsibility in them and prepare them to be safe while back in school. Even COVID-19 guidelines must be taught to follow.

Other primary steps could include:

  • Developing healthy habits as soon as possible
  • Limiting screen time
  • Mapping out the route to school
  • Talking about their fears and jitters
  • Celebrating the start of a new school year

Conclusion

These may appear to be trivial in the first go but once you realize how difficult it could be for kids to return to school after a gap of two years, you will know the value of these tips by Om Public School. Follow them and make your kid’s life easier.
