Good basic education is the primary feature to build a successful career and life. At its base lies a strong student-teacher rapport. The idea of an ideal class has been through many forms and revisions over the past couple of decades. Even the ongoing pandemic has given a distinct and unique aspect to this ancient concept of imparting knowledge to students. Through all the highs, lows and transformation what has remained intact is the student-teacher relationship. That is what has kept the concept of learning alive and interesting in school. This bond needs to be strengthened more than ever and measured must be taken to develop an atmosphere for learning which works for years and rewards immensely.
Keep the communication good
Communication is vital for developing understanding and bringing in a clarity in any relationship. The teacher must offer the learnings in an inclusive way to convey information effectively and clearly to each student. Adjusting to the pace of the students, highlighting important concepts, and reviewing students' queries creates a well-structured line of communication which leads to rapid comprehension.
By establishing an open line of communication, students feel free to share their doubts and hence learn more effectively. With an online classroom, the various e-learning platforms give the students an even more immediate connection to the teacher in the form of direct messages. Some students who may have stifled their queries in a physical classroom now have the opportunity to contact the teacher directly.
2. Active engagement
"The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery." (Mark Van Doren). For the lesson to be comprehended, the students need to engage with the class. By using interactive tools and methods, the teacher should encourage student participation.

3. Constructive feedback
The most prominent indication of a healthy student-teacher relationship is mutual feedback. Teachers should provide constructive criticism where required and students should be encouraged to provide feedback to teachers pertaining to their teaching methods.
Feedback helps students to course-correct their strategies when indicated and provides teachers with valuable insights into adapting their class to embrace the needs and expectations of all students. This in turn creates room for mutual growth and firmly secures the student-teacher bond.
4. Robust support
"Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." (William Butler Yeats). Teachers play an unquestionable role in the success of a student. Their constant and unwavering belief in their student's abilities makes the student trust his/her talents. This is pivotal when it comes to competitive exams.
The pressure of taking competitive exams makes students doubt their own skills and this should be remedied by the teacher's staunch support. This lends strength to the students and reassures them to successfully achieve their goals.
5. Consistent application
The hallmark of true comprehension is application. Students should not be spoon-fed concepts by their teachers. Instead, they should be encouraged to understand concepts and apply them wherever necessary. By inculcating this, teachers help students gain a deeper understanding of topics, which in turn provides them with a firm sense of confidence.
The future is in the making and by fostering healthy student-teacher relationships, we will be able to create a more nurturing and inclusive society which will pave the way for perpetual progress.
