“You cannot always control the wind, But you can control your sails”

What do we need to control the sails? Skills are the answers. Skills are all we need to survive this ever-changing world. Skills to gain, perform and outshine. Now the question is where to go and acquire these skills. The destination to this quest is unknown to many of us and when it comes to the word “life skills”, everything seems to be tangles and complicated. This article is an attempt to simplify quite a few things.
What are Life Skills? Life skills are abilities for adaptive and positive behaviour, that enable individuals to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life. Keeping all these things in mind we have incorporated Life Skills in our school curriculum. Only gaining knowledge is not important, children who are the future citizens of our country will face many challenges in their life. Life skills education helps them to face all these challenges boldly and bravely.
In everyday life, the development of life skills helps students to:
- Find new ways of thinking and problem solving.
- Recognise the impact of their actions and teaches them to take responsibility for what they do rather than blame others.
- Build confidence both in spoken skills and for group collaboration and cooperation.
- Analyse options, make decisions and understand why they make certain choices outside the classroom.
- Develop a greater sense of self-awareness and appreciation for others.
In the Life Skills class children were taught good habits for work. Know yourself, Money management, Online class Rules, Power of positivity, Gratitude Jar, Table manners, Time management, Positivity poster and setting a personal routine.
Life skills Education also strengthened bonds between teachers and students. Schools carve the future of a nation therefore the integration of life skills in school curriculum helps children develop a positive attitude and become a happy person in any phase of life.
Today’s dynamic world brings new challenges and stress every day so the integration of life skills using the school curriculum can enable students to deal with these challenges effectively.
